ANTHRA-ZINC for the roof
of the new aeronautical museum in Toulouse
The aviation museum Aeroscopia is due to open in early 2014. It will be housed in two buildings featuring a 6000 m² exhibition area that will showcase collector aeroplanes such as the Airbus A300, the Concorde and the Super Guppy, among others. The museum, located opposite the huge Airbus A380 assembly plant, also includes a 1000m² reception building.
To contrast with the surrounding plants and break with industrial architecture, Toulouse architects studio Cardete & Huet designed a curved construction - a gigantic ring-shaped hall that curves around the «lake» (the Airbus plant wastewater treatment basin).
« Aeroscopia had to cohabit with a large number of surrounding hangars, so we opted for a flexible design that opposes the rigidity of the neighbouring constructions », says the architect. « The black ANTHRA-ZINC chosen for the roof of the exhibition area will also contrast with the gleaming stainless steel on the doors of the plant opposite. »

A new zinc roof for the Folies Bergère in Paris
The famous music-hall theatre, dating from the 19th century and symbolising Parisian life during the “Belle Epoque”, has just undergone significant renovations bringing the entire building into compliance with technical standards (including fire safety, thermal and acoustic insulation).
Tailored installation was required for the new natural zinc roof. The Balas company, which specialises in restoring historic monuments, designed a unique technical solution using rafter sections for the external thermal insulation complex. The company also designed wood blocking to integrate acoustic insulation into the curved roof.
In all, VMZINC supplied 3,000 m² of zinc, for two L-shaped buildings with curved roofs (7 m curve for the first building and 25 m curve for the second). Beneath its beautiful new roof, the symbolic theatre will continue to entertain Parisians and tourists alike for many years to come.
